Stretching with Find A Challenge
i) During training sessions
Find A Challenge Group Sessions
begin with a warm-up. This prepares the body for exercise by
increasing blood flow to muscles and lubricating the joints with
synovial fluid which reduces friction and wear and tear.
Clients are then taken through Range
of Motion (ROM) stretches prior to the training session. This
involves exercises such as shoulder rolls and hip flexion and
extension.
After the cool-down phase of the training
session, clients are guided through a series of static stretches
which involve stretching the muscles to their furthest point and
holding for approximately 20 seconds. This releases tension in the
muscle fibres and can induce muscular relaxation.
ii) Specific Flexibility Sessions
One on one specific flexibility sessions are
offered to Personal Training clients with the aim of improving flexibility and
suppleness. As previously mentioned, the importance of training for
suppleness cannot be overlooked. Flexibility training may provide
the following:
-
Increased Range of Movement (ROM)
-
Reduced muscle tension
-
Improved muscle blood flow
-
Reduced muscle pain
-
Increased resting muscle length
-
Enhanced healing of microscopic muscle tears
caused during exercise
-
Enhanced relaxation, both physical and mental
-
Enhanced posture
-
Increased muscular strength
-
Reduced chance of injury
Specific flexibility sessions involve
Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) stretching. The
trainer administers the stretch to the client and assists the client
in passively stretching muscles to a new range. For further info on
specific flexibility sessions, visit contact
us or speak to James at one of our group training sessions.
